Allan John Sutherland
Allan is my father. At the tender age of 4 (or close too) he was taken away from his mother by the Catholic Children's Aide Society. All of his siblings were also removed from her care. The younger children were adopted.
My father rememebers the day the Children's Aide came to take him away. His mother went out for a short time. The neighbour lady was supposed to be keeping an eye on the children. Instead they were reported as abandoned. My father remembers helping the older children to barricade the door. Trying to avoid being taken from their home. Alas they were not successful and the children were removed. My father's last memory is of his mother coming to see him through a fence at the home he was staying in. She told him that she would be back for him. She never came back. I tear up as I think about it now. And over the years, tiny little glimpses of the little boy looking for his mom comes out in that grown man's face. I have searched many avenues, even cold calling Sutherland's in the Sault Ste Marie area. Nothing has turned up.
My dad did once meet a woman who was an apparent distant relative. She told my dad that Lucille had died in a car accident. But other rumors said that the woman who died was actually Lucille's sister. So it really isn't much in the way of hope or closure.
I don't know if anyone will read this. But I hope that maybe, just maybe in this big ol' world that right moment and person will come to read this.
Note: Barbara was located in adulthood. Having bounced through the system for years, she was never "permanently" accepted in to a family. Since she was one of the older children she has more memories of those long ago days. But she refuses to dicuss it.
